His session offered students a rare, first-hand perspective on how macroeconomic theory operates in real institutional contexts. He began by outlining the general structure of central banks, exploring the relationship between fiscal and monetary policy, and clarifying the distinctions between central and commercial banking systems.
The discussion then moved into governance and legal frameworks, addressing how central bank leadership is appointed and replaced, illustrated through the specific case of Iran. From there, students examined key economic dynamics such as inflows and outflows, particularly the relationship between oil revenues and the USD, as well as inflation indicators and broader economic indexes.
A particularly insightful part of the session focused on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), analyzing the impact of sanctions, relief measures, and long-term economic implications, including effects on settlement systems and insurance sectors. The session concluded with a discussion of IMF recommendations for Iran, offering a global perspective on economic policy and reform.
